Becoming Catholic

Are you interested in becoming Catholic?

The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process by which adults and children/youth ages 7-17 become members of the Catholic Church.

What is the RCIA process?

This process begins with a period of inquiry, where those seeking to know more can meet informally with catechists (teachers) and ask any questions they have about God, faith, and/or the Catholic Church. Following this period of inquiry, those who wish to learn more may enter into a period of systematic study and prayer called the catechumenate. After spending time praying and reflecting on what they have learned, those who wish to come into the Catholic Church may request to receive the sacraments of initiation - baptism (if unbaptized), Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.

How long does it take?

This process will look different for each person, because the call of the Holy Spirit is unique to everyone. For some, this process is a relatively short one; for others, it may take many months and even years. But the members of our RCIA ministry are committed to walking with each person that the Lord sends to us, for as long as their journey with us lasts.  The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (U.S. edition, 1988) reminds us: "The people of God, as represented by the local church, should understand...that the initiation of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized."

When do Classes Meet?

Adults seeking Baptism, baptized Christians seeking full communion with the Catholic Church and baptized Catholics who want to complete their initiation with both the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist are invited to join us for our initial inquiry sessions.

Un-Baptized Children & Youth

Un-Baptized Children and Youth: If your child/youth is between the ages of 7 and 17, he/she will begin a two year RCIA (adapted for children) preparation process. At the end of this time, he/she will receive the three sacraments of initiation: Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation.  Parents of un-baptized children must register their child in Formation. You will then receive information regarding the introductory session to be held in mid- September. One or preferably both parents must attend this information session with their child or teenager. A copy of your child’s Birth Certificate is required.
